Privacy Policy

Effective date: March 1, 2025

Overview

Canon is built for communities, not for data collection. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how it is used. We keep it short because there is not much to say.

What We Collect

From Kick OAuth

When you sign in with Kick, we receive and store:

  • Your Kick user ID
  • Your Kick username
  • Your Kick profile picture URL

We do not receive your email address, password, payment information, or any other Kick account data. We never post, follow, or perform any action on Kick on your behalf.

Content You Submit

Any lore entries, proposals, comments, poll votes, or clip submissions you create are stored and associated with your account. This content is visible to other members of the relevant community.

Usage Data

We collect basic, anonymized analytics to understand how the platform is used — such as which pages are visited and which features are most active. This data is not tied to individual users and is used solely to improve the Service.

What We Do Not Collect

  • Email addresses
  • Payment or billing information
  • Location data
  • Device fingerprints or advertising identifiers
  • Any data from your Kick account beyond what is listed above

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Identify you within the platform and display your username and avatar
  • Associate your contributions (lore, proposals, votes) with your account
  • Calculate points, badges, and leaderboard rankings
  • Deliver notifications you have opted into
  • Improve the Service through aggregated usage analysis

We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating the Service.

Sharing and Third Parties

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties, except in the following limited circumstances:

  • Infrastructure providers: We use Supabase for database hosting and Vercel for deployment. These services process data on our behalf and are bound by their own privacy policies.
  • Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of users or the public.
  • Business transfers: In the event of a merger or acquisition, user data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify users if this occurs.

Data Retention

We retain your account information and content for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal profile data is removed. Public contributions such as approved lore entries may remain in the community archive at the discretion of channel moderators, attributed to a deleted account.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your account and associated personal data

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address below.

Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections and access controls. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. If changes are significant, we will make reasonable efforts to notify active users.
